Schedule: https://dudle.inf.tu-dresden.de/debianpublicitymeeting (feel free to add days and hours). ============================================ AGENDA (proposal) ============================================ 1.- Round of introductions * Who are we, if we share our debian-time with other teams... ============================================ 2.- Status of our "current services", distribution of work * People in charge of some things ** Distribute tasks among people in the team. Find candidates for the Debian timeline, for the Press coverage, and others. ** Coordination with other teams having their own "publicity sites" (e.g. DebConf): should news be published in Bits/@debian or in blog.debconf.org/@debconf? * Perhaps actually merge press/publicity/bits/etc/etc more formally? Would allow for coordinated releases at least * Which is our role in some parts of Debian and the website: "Events", "Partners", "People/Contributors"... 2.1.- Announcements: Status, call for help, new ideas... 2.2.- DPN: Status, call for help, new ideas... 2.3.- Press team: Status, call for help, new ideas... * press@ is seriously understaffed. The person who is active has recently acquired another role in Debian, so won't have much time to do this as before 2.4.- Social Networking: Status, call for help, new ideas... * Use of social media tools ** Different people have access to different things ** Use of non-free platforms *** twitter/facebook etc are non-free. Is it better for the project to not engage with those? Or is it better to accept that that's where loads of people are, and to actually reach out to the users? **** If we centralise the storage and posting on debian.org and allow anyone to sync those posts anywhere else, who-ever wants Debian on other social networks or news sites can do that, of course we should ask that they be marked unofficial and mention Debian does not endorse non-free services. * Workflow to "dent" things, to try to be faster (people out or from Debian twit/posts stuff before us...) - proposal: https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Publicity/Identica * Maybe change "dent" word? * Post before the "official announcement" (when that announcement comes from other Debian teams) or wait to the mail/website? * Move primary store/publication to debian.org * Automatic syncing from debian.org to elsewhere * Addition of more social networks/news sites (HN/Slashdot) * interaction policy on SN/forums/news sites 2.5.- Press Coverage: Status, call for help, new ideas... * tracking of mentions of Debian in the press and in social networks / forums / comments 2.6.- Blog (bits.debian.org): Status, call for help, new ideas... ============================================ 3.- Possible new services or revival of services: * Revival of Debian events team and or adding Debian calendar service https://wiki.debian.org/Services#wishlist * Promote Debian ============================================ 4.- Planning coverage of "big events" (releases, elections,...) * Comments about the release coverage (announcement, liveblogging) ** Preparation of releases, e.g. DPL election, release date etc. so that when the time has come, everyone knows what to do and we can actually be the ones releasing "news" * Jessie is released. What's next?
