Project: User Personas & User Stories Team Members: Mark, [add you name here] Purpose: - help the debian design team and debian project to reveal existing challenges and find solutions from a user-centred perspective Goals: - Define user/stakeholder Personas that aggregate core presonal characteristics and backgrounds as well as needs, desires, expectations and barriers in relation to Debian. User Persona Definitions: - Debian End User 1 (tech savvy user with lots of Linux Experience) - Debian End User 2 (users with previous Windows/Apple experience, but no deep Linux/Admin experience, i.e. knows how to use MS Word/Outlook, but has no idea what a filesystem, IP address or mounting point is) - Debian End User 3 (users who use Debian mainly through VNC / connection over network) - Debian User 1 (people who are creating distros based on Debian) - Debian Collaborator 1 (Debian Designer who wants to contribute to the Debian Project) - ... [please add further] Persona Stories: Format: As a [Persona Name], I want to [...] so that [...] Story Collection: 1) As a Designer, I would like to contribute to Debian even if I don't have any tech skills (e.g. theming) - challenges: there are many designers highly motivated to improve debian, but -- it's hard to get an overview where design skills are needed -- it's hard to get an overview where design has the potential to have high impact -- they lack the skills required to join the project and make contributions - solution ideas: -- create overview graphic (such as https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Design/DraftNewFrontpage?action=AttachFile&do=view&target=debiandesign.pdf) -- create mentorship/buddy program, where experienced designers help new designers get trackion in the project -- point in directions where help/knowledge can be found 2) As a distro creator I would like to be able to create a visually unique desktop, not just use an already existing theme. - Challenges: Figuring out where to tweak visually -- information is hard to find -- it varies according to choice of gui engine. -- documentation missing - Solution ideas: -- Overview graphics -- helpful links -- Team up with experienced distro creators -- Team up in Debian Design and fumble together/ share findings/ encourage each other 3)...
