This doc is for gathering ideas for the Debconf 15 talk Resources: Announcements DPN DebConf blog Bits identi.ca/debian DevNews Update on what we did since the Bits from the Publicity Team email lists.debian.org/20141114115824.GA4049@pryan.ekaia.org review of the different services we handle and how people can get involved Presentation of the team ======================== Officially two teams: - press - publicity + translators/reviewers difference between press/publicity - press delegated - bits.debian.org delegated (but part of publicity) - in fact: everybody is virtually a member of the publicity team. It is a duty of the project as a whole. Announcements (press) ===================== Section News/ of the Debian website. prepared by the press team with the help of Publicity/other involved teams - publication of new releases - sometimes in coordination with other project/companies very official way to communicate Bits of Debian ============== Official Debian's blog https://bits.debian.org/ * 2009-2011 as news.debian.net * reopened as an official service in 2013 * less formal than announcements * every DD has commit access to draft * would be nice to have informal reports of sprints published (Debian Ruby, Debian Perl) DPN === created to be a weekly newsletter Since its revival in 2010 after ~ a year of break, supposed to be published every other week, but more on a monthly basis for about a year now (lack of manpower) - news from the project gathered from mailing lists/blog posted/ recurrent section: RC bugs during freeze, DSA, new packages/wnpp, reproducible builds stats, - "Team, what do you do": interviews of teams, introduced by Donald Norwood Nice way for people to + if your team is invited for the interview, please find some time to fill the answers + if your team is interested, we'll send you the list of questions Advertise your work and help the publicity team ----------------------------------------------- If you did/saw something amazing within the Debian project, send us a few lines with pointers. The Debian project is huge: difficult to monitor all mailing lists/etc If one of your packages entered in the archive and you feel that people couldn't live without it, let us know. Misc Dev News ============= https://wiki.debian.org/DeveloperNews collects small news that all developers should know but that are not worth a dedicated mail to debian-devel-announce. The person filling the 5th news wins the right to send an email to debian-devel-announce. Workflow ======== Debian publicity uses Git (transition finished during DebCamp) Every DD has commit access Social networks =============== Animation of the official Debian identi.ca account. The Debian project is also present on GNU Social, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Hacker News. Big event this year: Jessie's release ~150 posts non stop on identi.ca/Twitter during the weekend Every Debian contributor can propose a dent on #debian-publicity. When ACKed, someone with access to the relevant social network posts it. The wiki lists the persons with access to the Debian identi.ca account. You can help with the coverage of DebConf by proposing short headlines on #debian-publicity Debian Timeline =============== created by Chris Lamb, now maintained by the Publicity team timeline.debian.net https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Publicity/Timeline Other ideas =========== join the BoF this afternoon to discuss any of these projects or propose your own ideas.
