Quite a few people have already run sessions Quite a few interested in running more in the future pocock interested in sharing ideas with folks in India etc. KiBi has been to lots of "traditional" BSPs in the past, and has enjoyed them Most recent BSP in Paris focussed on getting new people into Debian, helping with things other than squashing bugs too. Was a nice change, good to try more of these in the future? - Needs more people to be involved to make it work well - Need to share more to get more new blood into Debian Different events have different expectations - Tutorials etc. are not the same as a BSP - Different "BSPs" may have different goals, e.g. some BSP focus, some more varied Sledge finds it easy to run BSPs in the UK, but it helps that there is a large community of active people Others may struggle to get a group together Ideas - advertise early - make sure there's plenty of space - add a theme to get people interested - great to have tasks for newbies too, but it can also be a lot of efforts - can the 'how-can-i-help' package help? - maybe - encourage new people to file bugs, and help with QA that way - track bugs in packages in specific languages? maybe use debtags Non-BSP events / meetings - Regular events, such as a monthly local meeting, might encourage newcomers - Difficult to advertise at times, can't announce "three DDs in a pub" on d-d-a - Even if you did it would likely not reach the right audience - A BSP is likely not the best place for a complete newbie (maybe a more social event?) - Rather than dedicated Debian meetings/events, join other OSS meetings to help with critical mass Does Debian funding help? We already offer sponsorship for BSP travel etc. Should we do more? - Maybe cover costs to get Debian speakers to events etc.? - We help to pay for sprints too. - Make this clearer, reduce stress on people?
