DPLs: * Mehdi, previous DPL * Chris, current DPL Content team: * Gunnar Wolf == 2017 Feedback == * DebConf Committee have been dealing with a case where we have received complaints from multiple teams against a long-time DebConf contributor. We're working on a resolution and hoping for a resolution that works for everyone. * Regular face-to-face meetings helped a lot and provided a bit of room for everyone to get to know each other * kanban worked really well for local orga team, easy to add quick actions (3 am ideas) * https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf17/TeamRoles * Timeline, was a good excercise to work on. Helps for a high-level view of what's going on. Really important to update that every meeting along with kanboard. * Prioritize the tasks * Migrate kanboard (or debconf.org) to be maintained under DSA (we have DSA in DC18 local team!) * Tooling: there's flexibility in tools which can be used, but try not to re-invent the wheel for no good reason and unless you can commit the time and effort required * Tooling: nice to have someone on the team that knows Django well * Gunnar: Urges local team not to re-implement new conf management system * Pollo: Working with the caterer really early on worked out great * Jerome: Felt like there was more time available to interact with catering people and gather more data. It's an important decision so it's worth while to take the time and make the best possible decision. Interact and meet with caterers extensively. Team already had a good relationship with caterer so it was easier to ask/discuss some specific requests. * Tiago: Feeding 300 people was a big challenge for the caterers. It's important not to push local suppliers for more than what they can realistically do. Some mitigations and compromises were made to reduce stress on supplier and ensure that there was enough food for everyone. It was never the ambition of the local team to have the best or biggest debconf, some local team members dissapeared along the way, and others picked up the slack who may not have been perceived as ideal, but they pulled it off. Show solidarity for your team members and try to maintain sanity. * Gunnar: Will current local orga carry on to help with DebConf orga next year? (anonymized): Still thinking about it, but would like to be involved in specific areas, will continue to contribute in existing teams. * Odyx: It's great if we as debconf-committee can stay in the loop and help obtain consensus easier on issues * Jerome: People, especially newcommers, will take on tasks and dissappear Questions from DC18 team: Sponsors: have someone local who can speak mandarin who can help co-ordinate with local sponsors and dc-sponsors team. Also, retry contacting global team sponsorship leader. Translations: Would be useful to get translations from sponsors so that sponsors team can stay in the loop. Communications: Jerome: There's a local list in french, not much used past the early phase. Mailing lists used much less than before. It was more important for the team to communicate directly and get things done than to have everything on the record. Nattie: It's good to keep at least the final decisions and outcomes on the record Stefano: timezones was really difficult this year, multiple pings and discussions over by breakfast time Daniel: DC17 website will soon be migrated to static site once al content is finalised. Some structure can be transfered to new DC18 site.
