Updating selected drivers

Few working on this at present. Bill Blough offered help.
Unlikely to have enough people working on this to cover many drivers. Often impractical for certain driver classes (like DRM).
May pursue this if the backports installer build isn't ready soon.

New kernel versions in the backports suite

Several people using this; no problems reported
An alternate installer build using the kernel from backports and enabling the backports suite is promised in the near future

Adding an alternate kernel version to stable
============================================

Might lend more of an "official" seal of approval then backports, and demonstrate that the package has security support
Q: Could the alternate kernel be maintained with a fixed upstream version?
A: Probably not - would require a lot more work to do security support for an additional version rather than backporting from testing/unstable
